This concert revives a long tradition of musical improvisation, once a fundamental part of classical music.
Each piece played from the score by the two classical musicians is followed immediately by spontaneous interpretations of the main themes just heard, played by the two improvisers.
Marshall McGuire is one of Australia's finest harpists.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, English String Orchestra, Les Talens Lyriques, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Festival appearances include Aldeburgh, Geneva, Brighton, Vienna, Milan, Huddersfield, WOMADalelaide, Huntington, Adelaide, and Melbourne.
Paula Rae is a regular guest performer of the Melbourne Symphony orchestra and principal flautist in the prestigious Australian chamber group Elision.
Lachlan Davidson is constant demand as one of the country's leading multi-instrumentalists. He is a composer, performer and teacher. He has been a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra five times and recorded music with Paul Grabowsky and David Hirschfelder.
Tony Gould is Beleura's music curator and has a long distinguished career as an improvising pianist, composer, mentor and music writer.
