SUMMARY:Botanical Drawing with Amanda Ahmed
DESCRIPTION:These one-day workshops are designed for complete beginners to botanical drawing. \nEach workshop is a standalone day. \nTuesday 15 September 10am – 3.30pm or Wednesday 16 September 10am – 3.30pm \nThe focus will be on observational drawing using graphite pencils to create realistic renderings of botanical subjects. You will explore tone and form; experiment with different mark-making techniques; and learn how basic geometric shapes can be identified in nature and translated into your drawings. \nThe workshop is presented in a friendly and supportive environment\, with plenty of individual guidance throughout the day. \nOver the last 10 years\, Amanda has conducted regular botanical art classes at the Geelong Botanic Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Amanda draws on the tradition of botanical illustration in terms of observation and documentation and works in graphite\, coloured pencil and watercolour with a strong focus on drawing as the basis of her art and teaching practices. \nThe day includes morning tea and lunch and materials including a magnifying glass and workbook to take home. \nAttendance fee: $120

SUMMARY:A Jubilation of Sounds
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY 11 SEPTEMBER   5:30 PM – 7:30 PM\n\n\n\nHyperbaroq are: \nIlaria Crociani                          voice \nMirko Guerinni                       saxophones\, duduk\, piano \nStephen Magnusson               guitars  \n  \nIt began six years ago\, on a rainy night during lockdown.\n\nMirko and Ilaria sat at the piano and played “No\, no\, non si speri”\, a cantata Giacomo Carissimi wrote around 1664. Something became irreversible.\nThe Baroque principle of the affetti\, music as the direct\, uninhibited expression of feeling\, was never a closed system. It was an invitation. It took us six years to understand what that invitation was asking: not to revive this music\, not to interpret it\, but to continue it.\nBringing our own sound to it\, loops\, samples\, electronic textures\, felt at first like touching something sacred with irreverent hands.\n\nThen we understood: the Baroque interpreter was never meant to be invisible. The affetti demanded a personal voice. So we let the electronics and the improvisation go where the feeling led.We are one step in a conversation that has never broken off\, one that asks not for answers\, but for the courage to keep searching.\nAlways in motion\, never in amber. This is the baroque we imagine.\n \nI’m not sure Monteverdi could have imagined his music being played on an Indian harmonium\, Armenian duduk and electric guitar\, but somehow it all worked perfectly. It felt as though the musicians – and the audience-were tapping into something both ancient and eternal\, demonstrating that the ability of this music to invoke both contemplation and elevation is as powerful now as it was four centuries ago.Jessica Nicholas\, The Age\n \nI need to congratulate you on a wonderful piece of work. It is really spectacular. As I listened repeatedly to each song\, to both the text and the arrangements\, I was continually impressed by the integrity of your work and the way that all the decisions fit well with the originals. And as I got further into it\, I could see closer stylistic connections to all kinds of music of the last fifty years or more.Professor John Griffiths AM OOIC FAHAVice President\, International Musicological Society\n\nIncludes Pre-Show drinks and canapés \nConcession $60 | Full Price $65 \n\n\n\n\nTickets\nIn the interests of fairness there is a maximum of four tickets per booking.
